admit

So we’re all familiar with the term ‘you want what you can’t have’ but how factual is that term? And if it is in fact true, what is it about not being able to have what we want that makes it so appealing?
Do we actually want something or someone because we genuinely can’t have it/them?

Surely that can’t be correct! There are many things out there that I want and I can’t have whether it is due to money, the circumstance, religion and so forth but eventually over time I like to think I get over it.

Let’s paint the most basic scenario that has happened to every woman or even person at one point in their lives.
So you’ve met someone new. Lovely person and they seem to be into you just as much as you’re into them. You’re texting at all times, getting to know each other, you know, the usual crap. You meet up a couple times and it seems great. Maybe for some reason it doesn’t work out but no biggie because you’re both still on great terms and you seem to be ‘friends’ now. Then one day you wake up and think to yourself; hmm I may like this person more than a friend which is understandable because let’s face it, you didn’t start off as friends and staying in contact after doing the deed means you’re technically still getting to know one another so there’s a high chance someone could potentially catch feelings. You weren’t actually head over heels before you decided you may now like this person more than a friend, you just had the initial thought of ‘wait a minute, we get on extremely well, we have a good foundation, I’m obviously attracted to you in some shape or form. Maybe I could like you more than a friend or I can definitely see this being a good thing if we ever decided to go there’.

Cool. So now what?

You have this new-found information and you’re both on great terms, erm why not express it? So you decide to express this new-found feeling to the other participant and the other person is not as receptive as you thought. I mean c’mon you’re not expecting an engagement ring but just a simple ‘no I totally get you’ would suffice but in fact they’re now acting the complete opposite to how you thought they’d react.
So they now start to ignore you and take forever to respond to your messages but instead of you being like ‘well you’re an asshole, I’m over this’, your feelings start to heighten. I mean heighten to the point where you actually start to think you could potentially be falling. Funny that because when you first thought you liked them it was just a mere thought but as the suspense of not knowing whether they felt the same increased so did your so called ‘feelings’ and now as you know they definitely don’t, you’ve jumped from ‘we could be kinda cute’ to ‘you better marry my ass’ in the space of weeks! WTF!

Am I right or nah?

Now flip the scenario.
You’re talking to another individual who digs you hard! This person is so up for it, sometimes you have to check in the mirror to see if you have diamond encrusted eyes because you just don’t get it but whatevs. Extremely attractive, caring, super sweet, shows you attention and makes you feel like you run the world. This person informs you of their feelings which now causes you to shy away. Maybe not intentionally but all of sudden you realised you just don’t have that spark, there’s something missing! There’s always something missing when there’s no chase, when there’s no suspense. There’s something that just isn’t right well so you tell yourself. Why is that?

satc

It’s like sales. Apparently the most effective way of selling is to make the product/service seem unavailable to the consumer. Offer it and then take it away and watch the customer jump, they say.

So do we actually want what we can’t have or is it an illusion? Or is the suspense created so we can appreciate it if we eventually obtain it?

I would love to hear what your thoughts are on wanting what you can’t have.

After a long day trolling Oxford Street for a bargain the girls next door decided to stop for dinner at none other then the Michelin star restaurant Patara.
Since going to Thailand we are in love with Thai cusine so we are always trying to find the most authentic ones and we believe this is the closest so far – food wise.

The décor inside the restaurant is very warm and calming, the instant smell of lemongrass adds to the relaxed vibe and adornment. The restaurant is extremely welcoming making it a perfect choice for any outing whether it be a family dinner, girls night out or date night.

Menu

Shemaliah :

The menu has something for everyone, I decided to order the lobster pad Thai which was absolutely amazing, I would recommend this dish as it is well seasoned yet not too hot for those who are not fond of spice.

Blessing :

The choices of food will guarantee you return to the restaurant as everything sounds superb. I opted for the lobster medallions in Thai green curry sauce; authentic with a twist. It was absolutely divine and the portions were spot on. The rice was cooked to perfection and the ratio of lobster to curry was accurate.

Service

Shemaliah :

I feel the service was mixed, when we entered the restaurant the staff took our coats and were very attentive to our needs, while we waited for a table , however I found our waitress to be quite abrupt and pushy especially as we didn’t know all the food on the menu and had some questions. Thankfully I have since dined at the Kensington branch and the service was superb and similar to what we experienced when we first stepped into the Oxford street branch.

Blessing:

I’ve had the pleasure of attending 3 different branches and each service has been similar. My first experience could have been better if I didn’t feel rushed when ordering my meal but apart from that, each restaurant has staff that are happy to go out their way to ensure you are satisfied by the end your dining experience which is all we ask for from any restaurant right?!

My only advice is try not to attend in a large group on a busy night i.e. Saturday evening as your food may take longer than expected to be served.

Rating

We believe Patara have earned a solid 8/10 from us as we constantly crave their food even as soon as we step out the restaurant.

We’ve throughly enjoyed dining at Patara and working our way through their recommended dishes on the menu.

Ps : New app alert

New to 2016 app Entertainer London offers users a chance to get buy one get one free on meals and spas around London on restaurants including Patara!

So if you love food just as much as us be sure to check it out

This morning I decided to wake up early, I aimed to be in work for 8am , when it got to 7:30 and I was still at my house I realised that my 8am start was failing and that I should just embrace it.

With that I decided to fully contour my face , I find that when I take time out to contour properly I am super in love with my face, as opposed to when I rush it , I keep telling myself If I haven’t got the time just don’t do it , im hoping one day il heed this message, im actually in the process of finding a good day to day make up look so when I finally come up with that il let you know.

Today, I thought I would share the products I use to create my look. I have tried so many from Anastasia Beverly hills to the Clinque chubby sticks.

And although I will say I am in love with Anastasia Beverly hills, I do think that its not always the best if you don’t have a lot of time to sit there and blend and also if your new to contouring.

SO these are the basic product ive been using this month.

In order I use..

  1. Smash box Photo finish Primer water available at Smashbox.co.uk £20.00
  2. Bobbi brown Long wear even finish Foundation £31.50
  3. Kevyn aucoin sensual skin enhancer (See previous beauty post)
  4. Ben Nye Banana Powder ( to set the concealer)  available at http://www.Camerareadycosmetics.com £8.68
  5. Black up Contour stick colour 1 available at Debenhams.co.uk £28.00
  6.  Set with a Translucent powder of your choice, for a darker contour and natural glow  go over with bronzers and powders such as Kat von D shade and light , Anastasia Beverly hills powder contour kit, in my case I used the Revolutions contour kit £8 available at boots.com

Black up’s contour stick is amazing , especially for people who are not used to contour, because a lot of these contour sticks only come in a dark shade , then you need to buy either a light foundation or stick separately, and to get a natural contour you need to make sure that the lighter shade isn’t just any shade lighter, this does all the hard work for you, as it comes with a dark side and a completing lighter shade,

I love this as Kevyn aucoin pops the under eyes , by putting this on the cheek bone above the contour, it evens out the brightness.

It also very creamy which makes it very blendable, if you have oily skin I would suggest a good setting spray such as Urban decay’s De slick over it after the loose powder just to ensure it holds all day, however, I have never had any problems with it and I like the silky look it creates,

I also allows you to build up your look without it looking too cakey , for example,  You can  create a natural contour with it really easily by just  blending softly and evenly with a beauty blender, to create a more harsh evening contour you would blend upwards leaving the line more defined and add product as needed.

I would  recommend the Black up stick to anyone especially those with deeper skin tones as it is available in a nice range of colours, I will be dragging blessing to the nearest Debenhams as soon as she returns from her holiday lol

It comes with a cute simple set of instructions too so no excuses!

Again we are in the process of sorting out video tutorials so let us know if you would like a contour one as well 🙂

So I guess we really do have the travel bug .. We are currently sitting in the departure lounge waiting for our flight, which will remain a secret until we get there!

Packing last night was a sick joke, I tried to cram in half my life into my suitcase without going over weight, or every girls nightmare .. forgetting something.

And when that’s all over, another struggle reveals itself how to keep entertained on the plane.

Dependant on how long my flight is these are the things I make sure are with me at all times.

  1. Cup’o’coffee Exfoliating Mask  Available at Lush.co.uk £6.75 https://www.lush.co.uk/products/masks/cup-o-coffee

Nothing screams home more then a lovely face mask, all you have to do is bring a small flannel in your hand luggage and about 45 min before the flight ends put some of this on your face, the smell alone will wake you up that’s for sure, read your favourite magazine or just shut your eyes and relax for the final part of your flight you’ll be amazed how fast time goes by and how awake you feel once you land. Its also a great way to get your skin ready if you are applying makeup before you leave the flight get ready for softer smoother skin in a instant – even when im not flying I aim to apply this at least twice a week.

2.  Your favourite Fashion, Beauty , Travel , Cooking magazine

Whatever your into , bring something that will inspire you while you fly, I like to read my instyle magazine , Especially if I know im flying to somewhere like America, all the great beauty products mentioned in the magazine will be at the top of my hit list once I land, and almost always if I like them they work out cheaper then in London

3.  Revlon Parfumerie nail enamel available at Boots.com £6.49

www.boots.com/en/Revlon-Parfumerie%E2%84%A2-Scented-Nail-Enamel_1450732/

This is always in my handbag even when im in London never mind if im going abroad! If its not threading the eyebrows its waxing or its packing and seeing the family before you leave or its work , there’s always something! Usually for me my nails end up getting neglected, and who wants to land with ugly nails .. that is not cute .. these are perfect for the plane and you wont have to worry about people staring at you because it smells, these are available in a range of scents and will leave your nails looking shiny and perfect, they are usually part of the boots 3 for 2 so grab them quick!

4.  Spray on Moisture   available at www.boots.com/en/This-Works-in-transit-spray-on-moisture-100ml_1485045/ £18.00

Life saver , no more dry dull skin from the air con , this will have you feeling brand new in no time I like to spritz throughout the journey to keep my skin hydrated , there are cheaper and equally great versions available via boots and superdrug.

5.  Travel Pillow  available at  http://www.skyscanner.net/news/travel-pillow-fight-11-best-travel-pillows-reviewed

According to sky scanner the best tried and tested one is £9.75, so not bad , whatever your budget having a comfier pillow is essential especially if your flight is long or you suffer from a bad back, I usually just pick one up from the airport but preparation is key so if you have a chase read through the reviews after all they are there for a reason.

thankfully there is no limit on hand luggage on most Long haul flights except from making sure your bag size fits in the compartment, so you know what that means, your list doesn’t have to stop there!

Let us know what you like to take with you when you fly.

“Glamour is not self-conscious; it’s not trying really hard. It’s just expressing your own truth. I think that’s what the essence of glamour really is—expressing your uniqueness.” Kevyn Aucoin

So what comes to your mind when you think of Sensual Skin enhancer.. for some of you many things but for us we think of a life saver, yes its true, I’m slightly obsessed. It will all sound a bit crazy until you buy it.

Anyway so …I took Blessing to Space NK with me over the weekend, and she too looked at me awkwardly as I went on a huge rant about how much this product has changed my life, so much so that even when I finally got into Space NK and managed to get her (the non make up wearer) to try it I was still finishing my rant, to which the actual employees said I should become a spokeswoman for the brand ha!

Believe it or not Blessing is now on my wave and is now a Kevyn fan, probably preaching to someone out there about this product as I type, the instant glow on her face which I will put down to sheer excitement about the product and because the product is just that good and highlights so naturally, was clear for us all to see, I could tell that, like me when she pulled out her credit card she knew it was her best buy yet!

So how do you use Kenvyn aucoin ? Exactly the same as you would your normal concealer.

Can It be used to create a natural coverage?

Yes, because it is a foundation and concealer it has a amazing coverage, you need to use the smallest amount I’m talking a light dot and you will get a smooth blendable coverage.

What do the girls next door use Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer for?

For that perfect contour, it works amazingly on the nose as a highlight and if you like that button nose look it blends really well with illuminator powders.

What brush do you use to apply Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer ?

Ideally any concealer brush and then once applied we blend using a beauty blender , however, the product is super blendable with fingers also.

Blessing says:

I genuinely didn’t think I could get excited about any makeup product as I did the Kevyn Aucoin. I’m almost certain me purchasing this product is the beginning of my best relationship yet. With amazing coverage and for someone that doesn’t like putting on too much makeup; this is the real deal. I recommend your standard face with a hint of this and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Any Tips?

Yes,

  1. Set your skin enhancer with a powder like ben Nye banana powder for a bright undereye appearance
  2. Use along with a natural coloured concealer to create a more natural look
  3.  Use anywhere the light touches your face
  4. Apply with caution as you may be too hot for yourself to even handle

The Girls Next Door have again been very silent for the last few days.. I blame the jetlag ! Being in LA which is around 6 hours behind London and coming back to the clocks changing is definitely not the best way to get back into the swing of things.

Having said that it certainly didn’t stop us from attending the Chanel exhibition which took place this month up until November 1st admission was free which is great as Chanel is usually a brand which can intimidate people as it is very high-end so it was refreshing to see them doing something everyone can enjoy.

We were fortunate enough to get onto one of the workshops which I must say was by far one of the most relaxing experiences I have done in a while!

If you missed it here are a few pictures from the day.

I, for one have been out of the dating game for a while now so everyone I seem to talk to is automatically made a friend without even realising but what happens when you actually start to giggle louder than you usually would with a friend? Check your phone every second to see if that ‘friend’ has replied? Does this so called friend now unlock the gates and let their self out the friend zone or where do we go from here?

It’s always hard to figure out if someone can be a potential lover or the best friend you’ve ever had by one conversation but then another conversation can turn to more or can turn to less. Then all we’re doing is deciding if this one is a keeper or a goner just by conversation and is that realistic so  my question is; how do we really differentiate a friend from a lover without having to kiss every frog that comes our way?

I personally don’t want to have to kiss every frog to get to my prince because it does get a bit yucky and plain right depressing after a while but I also don’t want to lose out on my prince charming.

I’m someone that believes in everything magical and what’s meant to be will be. If I kiss someone and I honestly don’t hear or feel fireworks exploding in my head, that is an automatic friend zone but it does get to a point where my friend zone will get full and a girl can only have so many friends.

I do think comfortability comes with age which makes us question all the little things that may spark a red flag when we think we may have found a potential. And why is it that the red flags normally stem from someone having all the right attributes but not the sexual chemistry? Which makes me question if life really begins at the end of our comfort zone and if we’re missing out on the one because we’re scared to take risks?

A girlfriend of mine told me to stop overthinking and go with the flow TODAY and forget all the other days because life is for living in the moment. So maybe we should stop looking, thinking and just enjoy that person we have right now, whether it’s a friend or lover because you never know what the end result could be. It could be the perfect lover, partnership, friend or even all three.

I’m excited to hear what you all think so don’t hesitate to leave a comment.

I don’t know about you but this is my favourite time of the year, yes im one of those weirdo’s who half way through summer get super bored of cami’s and want to add some layers, if only it wasn’t getting any colder and the sun still shined slightly, I would be in my full element!

Here’s five of our favourites we have stumbled across along our Fashion Haul.

    • One thing about me is I love Faux fur , it can make a LBD  look so chic, while making you look super warm with some skinnies and knit.

My favourite is the Vintage Faux fur coat in the image above available from ASOS which if you were lucky was on sale for £48.00 two days ago. Im currently living with it so much so that when I come to work without it they all ask me where my pet is!

    • Despite the constant rain in London Suede is and will always be a one of my favourite textures to add to a outfit, Especially in this seasons colour Berry.

Since we are not quite saying goodbye to cami’s yet im in love with this cami from Riverisland.

    http://www.asos.com/River-Island/River-Island-Suedette-Cami/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=5275833&cid=13491&sh=0&pge=2&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Burgundy&totalstyles=88&gridsize=3

    • When it starts to get cold looking casual can be a bit tough especially when the weather has you looking as tired as you feel, that or all those parties! make things easier with a biker jacket , leather is a effortless way to do casual chic.

I am so in love with this biker from Asos combining fur and leather textures who can complain and complete with a detachable fur collar for the days you just want to wrap a blanket scarf and go!

    • As soon as I saw this ring I screamed .. no seriously .. simplistic greatness

We know what ours is so here goes…..

As the weather gets colder, our drinks get warmer and I have found my two perfect teas to get me through the winter.

You’ve probably realised from our previous post that we’re tea girls! We love a good ol’ cuppa and it honestly gets us through everything.

So at the moment I’m absolutely still loving , Jasmine green tea , I run to every restaurant requesting it and nowhere has let me down yet , blessing on the other hand is super obsessed with earl grey and vanilla chai tea.

So whether your out or in we have some fab places local to south London to enjoy a cuppa and some great brands to order  from to enjoy your tea at home.

    Tea at home ..

Firstly no tea is complete without the perfect china cup my favourites are below.

SO in love with this good morning cup from UrbanOutfitters ( top picture) so much so I had to get one myself and for £5 who is complaining.

    1. http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/uk/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=5530427510110&category=GLASSES-EU
    2. https://www.whittard.co.uk/tableware/collections/alice-in-wonderland-range
    3. http://www.zarahome.com/us/en-us/tableware/mugs-c1177516p5949961.htm

    Tea on the go…

    1. For the best chai tea we recommend Starbucks
    2. For a nice atmosphere not to far from home we recommend http://www.yumnbrasserie.co.uk/

And for those really on the go … here’s one for the road

I booked this holiday about 6 -9 months prior to going and I have to say out of all my destinations Vegas had to be the one I was most excited about.

Don’t you hate when you go online and the hotel looks so amazing but in person it is so mediocre, sitting there and reading reviews doesn’t always sound attractive either because you always have that annoying snobby person complaining about something irrelevant before you get to the juicy reviews.

    Anyway…

When I could finally stop jumping around, and have a good look at the room everything was exactly as the picture, my favourite part was the curtains they would open electronically in the morning, yes I’m easily satisfied.

The bed was amazingly comfortable and the decor was simple and classy perfect for a hotel which holds a variety of guests with different tastes, walking through the hotel almost feels like a fairy town, with carasols, thousands of flowers and plenty of high end shops to keep you entertained.

The food options were also impressive with plenty vegan and gluten free restaurants.
The hotel staff were not as impressive, in particular the tour desk did not seem clued up about things to do in the area, which was quite annoying as we only had a weekend, luckily the people of vegas are extremely friendly and recommended bars and fun activities to do.  I will say the security was excellent, they would only let you through the elevators with a valid hotel card, this was nice as it is such a open hotel which attracts a range of people.

The location is perfect and you can walk to many clubs and lounges from here, for all youshopaholics the hotel is positioned across the road from the fashion mall which houses up to 250 shops. ( dollars at the ready ladies)

Sephora is also close and I will know as I spent half my days in there, it conveniently closes at 11 along with Walgreens which ended up being my daily life saver!

Also a small tip never book your club tickets at the hotels, there are some extremely good promoters in Vegas waiting to add ladies for free on guestlist.

So walk up and down and be friendly you will be sure to meet people waiting to invite you out!
